About Us

Elkhorn Rural Public Power District was created in 1938 under the direction of the Rural Electrification Administration (REA). Lines were built in rural Madison County and the first 116 miles of line were energized on April 29, 1940. Initially, 148 consumers were hooked up. Today, Elkhorn supports more than 8,900 consumers.

The district has 26 substations that distribute electricity throughout the Elkhorn district at either 4160 volts (town) or 7,200/12,500 volts (rural) over 2,800 miles of line.
